
Lourenço
Macedo Sampaio
Born in 1989, Lourenço Macedo Sampaio studied at the Conservatory of Music in Porto, Portugal, in the class of Jean-Loup Lecomte. Winner of the 2015 Young Musicians Award, he graduated with the highest grade from ESMAE in Ryszard Woycicki's class. Since the age of 16, he has taken classes with Ana Bela Chaves and Valentin Stefanov. In 2009, he began studying with Igor Sulyga, principal viola of the Moscow Virtuoso, member of the Moscow String Quartet and current violist of the Kopelman String Quartet. Since 2010, he has received constant support and teaching from Gérard Caussé. In 2014, he completed his Masters at the Royal Academy of Music with a merit scholarship from Leverhulme Trust, Santander Universities UK and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He has attended masterclasses with Nobuko Imai, Maxim Vengerov, Rivka Golani, Yuri Bashmet, Diemut Poppen, Avri Levitan, Tatjana Masurenko and Luís Muñiz. He recently completed the Artist Diploma under the guidance of Paul Silverthorne, Head of the London Symphony Orchestra.
