Madureira
Madureira earned his degree in composition from Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon, where he studied with António Pinho Vargas and Christopher Bochmann. He also studied with Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Sienna (1995), with York Höller at the Musikhochschule Köln (1997-2000, sponsored by Centro Nacional de Cultura), and with Ivan Fedele at the Conservatoire National de Région Strasbourg (2000-2003). In October 1998, João Madureira was awarded the ACARTE / Maria Madalena Azeredo Perdigão prize of the Gulbenkian Foundation. João Madureira has had his works performed in Germany, England, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia and Portugal. His has been commissioned by institutions like Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Culturgest, Expo’98, Centro Cultural de Belém, IPPAR, Casa da Música, Teatro da Cornucópia, Teatro Nacional de São João / Companhia de Teatro .lilástico, Portuguese Republic Presidency, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, and his compositions have been performed in various festivals by interpreters like Nuno Vieira de Almeida, Sílvia Mateus, Luís Miguel Cintra, Orchestrutopica, Remix Ensemble, NRW Art Ensemble, Jeff Cohen, Luís Madureira, João Vasco Almeida, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Youth Symphonic Orchestra, Grupo de Música Contemporãnea de Lisboa, Silvio Gualda, among others. João Madureira teaches composition at the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon.
