When I started the process of creation and idealization of this work, one of the questions I was interested in exploring what was the behavior of an object (portuguese guitar), in a space that is not usually his (contemporary music). What is the resulting image, movement and discourse? I tried to reach a far point on these reflections. A neutral field that would allow the instrument and myself to work out the ideas and systematize choices. Once at this point I found the way to the creation, interpretation and abstract formalization of this work.
The idea of this cycle of works is the result of the addition of a light source to an object, creating a dark zone, with partial absence of light (the shadow space), providing at the same time the existence of an obstacle. The creation of the shadow can occupy different spaces and shapes on the projection surface, depending on certain characteristics, such as the source, location, space, relief… highlighting fine rays of light around it. The object or image is recognizable, but there is something strange, not fully perceived, a certain shadow.
The works presented have instrumentation varying between solo, electroacoustic and chamber music, but always with the portuguese guitar as a soloist element and thought of as a body where all may be played. Each work is a fluid object, where everything is constantly changing, trying to find musical poetry, a non temporal space, expression, sound quality and creates something that reveals what one can find within.
