Alves
Portuguese tenor Mário João Alves studied singing with Fernanda Correia, Elio Battaglia and Enza Ferrari. In 1996, he was ranked 2nd in the Luísa Todi National Singing Competition. He has worked with directors such as João Lourenço, Luís Miguel Cintra, Paulo Matos, Bob Wilson, Giancarlo del Monaco and Graham Vick. He is regularly guest soloist of the Gulbenkian Orchestra and Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, among others. As a writer, he was awarded the Prize Matilde Rosa Araújo and the Prize Bocage in 2011. His first book, A valsa dos sem-isqueiro, was published in 2006.
