Croner de Vasconcellos
Jorge Croner de Vasconcellos (1910-1974) was a Portuguese neoclassical composer. He studied with Alexandre Rey Colaço, António Eduardo da Costa Ferreira and Luiz de Freitas Branco, among others. He also worked with conductor and composer Francisco de Lacerda. At the École Normale de Musique, in Paris, he studied with Paul Dukas, Nadia Boulanger, Igor Stravinsky and Alfred Cortot. From 1939 onwards, he teached Composition, Singing and Music History at the National Conservatory, Lisbon. With Fernando Lopes-Graça, Armando José Fernandes and Pedro do Prado he formed a group of young people and students from the Lisbon National Conservatory known as "Grupo dos Quatro", which influenced Portuguese neoclassical music in the 1930s.
