Henrique Luís Costa Gomes de Araújo was born in Porto on July 23, 1947. Descendant of two music-loving families, he had his first piano lessons at age 7, with his maternal grandmother Leonilda Moreira de Sá e Costa, and then continued studies with her aunt, Helena Moreira de Sá e Costa. He was treasurer of the Orpheon Portuense. He is a researcher at the Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts, CITAR, Catholic University of Portugal.
