Ayres d'Abreu studied Piano at the National Conservatory and Composition at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, Portugal, with Sérgio Azevedo and António Pinho Vargas. As an Erasmus student he attended Gérard Pesson's composition class at the Paris National Conservatory, France. He completed a master's degree in Musicology at NOVA and an Executive MBA at AESE Business School. As a researcher he collaborates with the Centre for the Study of the Sociology and Aesthetics of Music. In 2017, Ayres d'Abreu was awarded the Otto Mayer-Serra Award (2nd Prize) of the University of California, Riverside. He is a founding member of MPMP Património Musical Vivo, under the auspices of which he has conceived of and coordinated several editorial projects and musical events.
