Daniel started as a composer in 2011 taking an undergraduate in the Lisbon Music College, where he also took a Masters in Composition. In 2016, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama offered him a place to do a Doctoral program with the composers Julian Philips and Richard Baker as supervisors and the composer Julian Anderson as his co-supervisor. He was the Young Composer in residence of the 2014/2015 Concert Season of the Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras. In 2014, the Calouste Gulbenkian Symphony Orchestra premiered his work …from the last breath at the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Hall in Lisbon, Portugal. In 2015, the Portuguese Symphonic Wind Orchestra premiered his work between places… at the Casa da Música in Porto, Portugal. For the 2016’s season, he was Associate Composer in the context of the Musicalmente, Music for Babies project. In 2019, he was selected to participate in the Opera & New Technologies Workshop with Michel van der Aa at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, supported by the ENOA Community and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Apart from Casa da Musica’s Music Hall in Porto and the Calouste Gulbenkian’s Music Hall in Lisbon, Daniel’s music has been performed in different international venues as for example Senhora da Boa Nova’s Music Hall in Cascais, Portugal, Milton Court’s Music Hall in London, United Kingdom, Ventura’s Music Hall in Athis Mons, France, Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in Antwerp, Belgium and Esplanade’s Music Hall, Singapore. Currently, Daniel is one of the five composers in residency of the Young Composers Scheme 2019-2020 by the London Philarmonic Orchestra and one of the Portuguese representatives in the World New Music Days 2020.
