Alfredo Teixeira holds a PhD in Political Anthropology (ISCTE-IUL) and a master's degree in Systematic Theology (FT-UCP). He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Portugal, where he holds the position as the Director of the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences and is the coordinator of the "Chair Manuel Sérgio: Sports, Ethics and Transcendence". Between 1994 and 2003, he was part of an interdisciplinary group that studied the Contemporary Thought and collaborated in the scientific organization of the Science of Religions Department, at the Lusophone University of Humanities and Technology. He also collaborates with the Master Degree and PhD in History and Culture of Religions, at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Didaskalia and Communio. At present, he is co-editor of the Journal of Religious Studies (REVER). He also develops a recognized and rewarding composer activity. He studied music at the Music School of the National Conservatory (Portugal). He also attended the International Course of Choral Direction “Lleidatà Orfeo” (Catalonia), under the guidance of Lászlo Heltay. After completing studies at the Music School of the National Conservatory, he continued to study Composition with Jorge Peixinho, until his teacher’s death in 1995. Parallel to his academic work, he also dedicates his time to musical creation and choral activity. In 1998, the Prize Lopes- Graça of Composition, promoted by the City Hall of Tomar (Portugal), recognised his work Fragmentos para um De profundis with an Honourable Mention. In 2013, Alfredo Teixeira won the «Fernando Lopes-Graça International Composition Prize». O Crux won the second prize at the «International Choral Competition Musicaficta New Music contest for Easter Time» (2014).
