Born in London in 1964, he began his violin studies with his father Walter Stewart. At the King's School Canterbury (1977-82) he worked with Clarence Myerscough and later between 1978 and 1982 with Felix Andriewsky. He was a student of Eric Gruenberg at the Guildhall School of Music, where he received a degree in violin performance and pedagogy. With a scholarship from the Polish Government and through the British Council, he studied at the Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice with Aureli Blasczok, Stanislaw Levandowski and later in Warsaw with Tadeusz Wronski. He has given several concerts and recitals in England, France, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Italy and Turkey. He has been the Associate Leader of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra since 1993.
