Fernandes
Aires Fernandes (1550?-1600?) is a composer of whom very little is known. Some hypotheses suggest that he developed musical activity in Coimbra, possibly in the Cathedral, around 1590 to 1600. Most of Fernandes' works that have survived to the present are found in choir books that belonged to the Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra, currently kept in the General Library of the University of Coimbra. Other works are found in the Municipal Library of Porto, Museum of Sacred Art of Arouca, Library of the Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa and in the District Archive of Évora.
